Best graphics cards Two of these GPUs would give us the same spec’d FP64 performance as one TITAN V. With gaming, which happens to be the focus of this article (I know, it’s hard to tell), we have many benchmarks that will help us turn our gaming assumptions into answers.
It’s going to be a solid option for most workloads, and now with increased FP64, it becomes a relative steal at $700 to those who need it. Best PC games That even includes 1080p resolution. AMD’s RX Vega 64 offered about 0.8 TFLOPS of FP64, whereas Radeon VII, after AMD’s whim, becomes 3.52 TFLOPS.
For comparison’s sake, the 2080 Ti offers 0.42 TFLOPS of FP64 performance.
It just doesn’t have the Tensor or RT cores that the TITAN RTX does (but its saving grace is that it costs 1/4th as much). Do you really believe Black Ops 4 needs 12GB of VRAM? Creative users will lust for that long before gamers will. Katharine writes about all the bits that go inside your PC so you can carry on playing all those lovely games we like talking about so much. Here, it’s a much tighter race between the two cards, and on the whole both of them cope pretty well on High, so much so that you could probably get away with using this setting quite comfortably in a number of today’s big games. The “VII” in Radeon VII represents the fact that the card is built using 7nm, and also that it’s a follow-up to the original Vega, which spawned RX Vega 56 and 64.
If you click our links to online stores and make a purchase we may receive a few pennies. It’s much better when we get far greater performance for the same power – or perhaps 5W more than RX Vega 64, as AMD’s spec sheet shows. Devil May Cry 5 Radeon VII 4k Benchmark. And the story continues in Firestrike, where AMD’s Radeon VII – via KOMACHI_ENSAKA – only just loses out to Nvidia’s RTX 2080 by 27,587 to 27,853, respectively.
Support RPS and get an ad-free site, extra articles, and free stuff. The move to 7nm helps AMD develop a GPU that’s more power efficient, but what fun would there be in releasing a product that only delivered the same performance, but at less power? With 16GB of HBM2, Radeon VII feels like a professional-grade card out-of-the-gate, and at launch, we questioned whether or not it should have been called the Radeon Pro VII (or even Frontier Edition 2). So yes, if you’re looking for the best 4K graphics card for gaming at the moment that doesn’t involve spending over a grand on the RTX 2080 Ti, I think the RTX 2080 makes a pretty strong case for itself. Thanks for your support!
I’m not convinced. Reference RX 5700XT Stats 4K 60FPS Gaming: 35% of the 23 Games can be played native at 4K. It does topple the GTX 1080 Ti, which scores 25,472, and AMD’s Vega 64 with 22,703.
That’s not the only game where they come within a hair’s breadth of each other, either. Legacy GPU Hierarchy.
Overall, however, the RTX 2080 still has the upper hand, particularly when it comes to those more borderline cases such as FFXV and Total War: Warhammer II. Final Fantasy XV is still a bit of a tough nut on this setting, but if graphical fidelity matters more to you than the kind of frame rate you’re getting, then High is certainly doable on both the Radeon 7 and RTX 2080. This free pumpkin festival game is the best thing to happen all Halloween. Jacob describes himself as the hardware team’s resident wildcard. With its “do everything” ambition, the Radeon VII is similar to NVIDIA’s TITAN series. To add to this, the night prior to this article’s embargo lift, AMD told us that it decided to increase the double-precision (FP64) performance on this card to twice what was previously announced – which was already twice what we were told after CES. Get involved in the conversation by heading over to our Facebook and Instagram pages.
The Radeon 7 could bounce back if it ever drops from its launch price of £649 / $699, but right now, the £640+ / $710+ RTX 2080 is much better value for money. The numbers for the other Nvidia and AMD cards have come from our own testing results, with the Radeon VII benchmark numbers coming from the various leaks appearing today. Not only is it the world’s first 7nm gaming card, but it’s also the first consumer GPU to come stacked with a whopping 16GB of memory – that’s double what AMD stuck on their previous top-end card, the Radeon RX Vega 64, and 5GB more than what you’ll find on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (which is currently the best graphics card around if you happen to have a spare thousand smackers stashed away under a mattress somewhere). Tagged with AMD, AMD Radeon, feature, graphics cards, Hardware, Nvidia.
It’s worth noting that our benchmarks were carried out on a similar, but not entirely comparable, rig. The only game where the Radeon 7 actually comes out on top is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, where its average benchmark score was just a single frame in front of its Nvidia rival. AMD’s Radeon VII will launch on February 7, 2019, and you can delve much deeper into our AMD Radeon VII review for full, independent benchmarks once that day comes around. How many people need 300+ FPS in Siege, really?
The Radeon VII was 18% faster at 1440p though that margin is reduced to just 6% at the 4K resolution. Best Warzone loadout for Season 6.
Radeon VII vs RTX 2080: 4K performance Starting with what the Radeon 7 and RTX 2080 can do on 4K Ultra settings , the RTX 2080 has a clear advantage here almost across the board. 2 comments.
Aside: and yes, I’ve only just realised I should have used the *other* colour for each card in all of the graphs I’ve created above, for which I am deeply sorry and apologise for messing with the AMD red and Nvidia green dynamic that’s been so firmly rooted in everyone’s brains. In truth, most games don’t need anywhere near that amount of memory just yet, and as you may have seen from my AMD Radeon 7 review, it doesn’t really end up being much help when it comes to competing against its main Nvidia competitor, the RTX 2080. AMD’s Radeon VII defeats the RTX 2080 in leaked 4K benchmarks AMD’s 7nm gaming GPU tops the RTX 2080 in 3DMark Firestrike, but can't quite beat Turing in Time Spy

The only one I’ve left off is Doom, because everything can run Doom at ludicrous frame rates and I don’t think it really adds much to the overall conversation. To all intents and purposes that’s pretty much level-pegging. We’re talking 1TB/s of available memory bandwidth, after all.
As games with bigger textures get released, and we play our games at higher resolutions, the need for more GPU memory is undoubtedly going to increase. I don’t personally think 16GB of VRAM is going to do many people much good with gaming now, or in the next few years – and by the time a few years pass, we’ll have new GPUs to use.
There’s not long to wait for the launch of AMD’s Radeon VII graphics card, the first gaming GPU of its kind on the 7nm process node. This thread is archived. Maybe that 16GB HBM2 comes in handy after all…, PCGamesN Test Rig: Intel i9 9900K, Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming, 16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4, Corsair HX1200i, Philips BDM3275.
He is currently on an unremitting quest to create the world’s ugliest gaming PC and is often found tinkering on the testbench in a vain attempt to resurrect another failed RGB experiment gone awry. As for those sweet, all-important performance index numbers, fresh leaks from the underbelly of the internet (thanks, TUM_APISAK) would have us believe the Radeon VII in 3DMark Time Spy, with a score of 8,700 timepoints or what have you, is outperformed by our results for the Nvidia RTX 2080, holding its own at 9,645. Sure, there are some cases once again where each card is pretty much identical in speed, but it’s still the RTX 2080 that comes out on top overall, even if sometimes it’s only by a couple of frames.
That’s a resolution we haven’t used in our high-end GPU launch reviews since 2014. A total of eight games are included in our current test suite. Best Minecraft shaders for 1.16.3 Rob founded Techgage in 2005 to be an 'Advocate of the consumer', focusing on fair reviews and keeping people apprised of news in the tech world.
In the press deck (slide seen below), AMD highlights 11GB as being “required” for gaming in 2019, which isn’t even close to being the case.
Does Watch Dogs Legion contain a single NPC I could bear to hang out with? AMD’s competition has launched four current-gen GPUs since the fall, so its fans have understandably been anxious for a follow up to 2017’s RX Vega.
So I thought I’d take a closer look at how they both stack up again, this time via the medium of some lovely graphs, both at 4K across a variety of different graphics settings as well as what’s possible on max settings at 2560×1440. 39% of the 23 Games can be played at almost 4K with Sapphire TriXX BOOST. However, even before the embargo’s up and performance figures are let loose on the globe, some avid benchmarkers’ results have been scooped right off the interwebs for us to lay our prying eyes on. (And really, if you’re after a graphics card that can do 60fps at 1440p on max-ish settings, do yourself a favour and buy the infinitely cheaper RTX 2060, because that will be a far better use of your money than either of these 4K pixel-pushers.). GPU Benchmarks 4K Ultra. With VII being derived from Instinct, it feels to me like AMD was forced to a 16GB VRAM config, and now has to justify that reality through what I’d consider to be misleading marketing. Highlighting VII’s gaming focus is likely for marketing more than anything else, because “world’s first 7nm jack-of-all-trades card” doesn’t have the same ring to it. Comments are now closed. Ultimately, it feels like AMD didn’t even know where to target this card, so it just decided to target it everywhere.
The same can be said of the RTX 2080 when it comes to its performance at 2560×1440 on Ultra settings, too. AMD Radeon VII 1440p, 4K & Ultrawide Gaming Performance by Rob Williams on February 7, 2019 in Graphics & Displays AMD’s competition has launched four current-gen GPUs since the fall, so its fans have understandably been anxious for a follow up to 2017’s RX Vega.

But not to ruin your Margarita with an over enthusiastic salting, it’s worth noting that, while there are evidently Radeon VII samples out in the wild, all drivers are pre-release and therefore performance is not necessarily final. AMD Radeon 7 game benchmarks produced by Digital Foundry, showing performance at 1080p, 1440p and 4K. In most cases, each configuration is tested twice, with more runs added if the initial results make the extra testing necessary (which isn’t required too often).
As I mentioned in my Radeon 7 review, the two cards are pretty much neck and neck in both Monster Hunter: World and Shadow of the Tomb Raider (with its SMAATx2 anti-aliasing enabled), and even the gap in Forza Horizon 4 isn’t really that large overall.
